I’m proud of my town, Louisville, Colorado, and fiercely protective.
The time was 3:30 in the afternoon and I decided to walk a few blocks to see what Louisville, Colorado looked like in the midst of our state lockdown. I knew people wouldn’t be out and about, but wondered how I could share the story of a small town doing its best to protect citizens during such an unprecedented and historic period. My heart was moved by the ways our small businesses are trying to adapt and remain in business. Make no mistake, these merchants are the lifeblood of our town. This is where we gather, drink wine, chat with friends, lounge over a cup of coffee. One our community complaints has been trouble parking, but today entire streets were empty. I saw maybe 3 or 4 people on my walk down Main Street, Front Street and back home through Memory Square. The sun was out and I was wearing flip flops, but I felt chilled. Where will we all be when this is over? Who will we all be?
I don’t have the answers.
I’m proud of my town, Louisville, Colorado, and fiercely protective. I suspect you feel the same way about your own.
The only thing I know for sure is we are all in this together.
This reminded me of the land of misfit toys. Sand and trucks, a child’s paradise. Empty.
My husband and I did take out a few nights ago from Pica’s. We are trying to do take out from our local restaurants twice a week. The margaritas from Pica’s packed quite the powerful punch. No complaint.
Support your local restaurants and retailers the best you can. Maybe buy some takeout a few nights a week, maybe buy a gift certificate for later use. Because there WILL be an after. A time when we mingle in close proximity again, complain about the wait for our favorite table, bitch about having to park too far away and wish so many children weren’t at the playground. There will come a time when we will joyfully, and I suspect, tearfully, rush out on first Friday so very grateful to be alive. So very grateful for our small town.
